It is with great respect that we honor the life of Dr. John Johnson, who dedicated nearly 40 years of service to the Johnson City Eye Clinic. Dr. Johnson was a highly esteemed ophthalmologist and surgeon, whose practice emphasized small incision cataract surgery and the treatment of retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, and macular degeneration.

Dr. Johnson completed his residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, followed by a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami School of Medicine. He brought his extensive expertise in treating neovascular or “wet” macular degeneration, utilizing advanced therapies such as photodynamic therapy and Lucentis.

A fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Dr. Johnson was also a member of the Washington County Tennessee and American Medical Associations. In addition to his practice, he served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Quillen School of Medicine, contributing to the education of future ophthalmologists.

Dr. Johnson’s legacy continues to inspire our team and the many patients whose lives he touched. We honor his contributions to our clinic and the field of ophthalmology.
