Lead Scribe

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manages scribe staff to correctly summarizes and documents what the physician says during an examination, including but not limited to: proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for treatment (including justification of decisions reached when appropriate).
  2. Meets weekly with clinical management team.
  3. Meets monthly with compliance officer.
  4. Observes the patient and the physician and assists when appropriate during the exam, including but not limited to: holding the patient’s head in the slit lamp, providing additional medications and/or instruments, following directions in a medical emergency.
  5. Maintains an awareness of the patient’s verbal and non-verbal communication when the physician is providing instructions as it may necessitate the scribe repeating information, providing written instructions, and/or patient education materials for the patient to review at home.

Assures that scribes adhere to the following:

  1. Maintains patient flow, by ensuring a minimum of two patient rooms are always occupied.

  3. When applicable, prepares accurate eye glass or contact lens prescriptions and/or medication prescriptions for the eye physician’s signature prior to the completion of the examination.

  5. Completes the superbill and/or the check-out form, providing direction to the patient prior to following the physician.
  6. Guides patient to front desk after completion of exam and ensures proper follow-up appointments are made. Learns the personality and preferences of each physician, recognizing differences and abiding by them when working with that particular physician.
  7. Becomes fluent in the exact requirements of each examination.

Insurance Verification Specialist

 

Description: The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verification of insurance, obtaining insurance authorizations and referrals.  This employee will educate the patients on various policies, procedures and benefits related to the need for referrals and coordinate referrals with patients and referring physician offices.  Will act as a liaison between patient, physician and insurance company, consistently performing duties in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Verify insurance information on all new and existing patients by phone or online verification tools
  • Contact patient if unable to obtain verification with insurance carrier
  • Update patient benefit information in the organization’s practice management system and verify existing information is accurate
  • Knowledgeable in determining when a patient visit requires a referral and clearly communicates to patient when a referral is required
  • Inform patient to contact primary care physician to obtain referral prior to patient visit or instruct patient to bring referral at time of appointment.
  • Obtain authorizations and pre-certifications for date of service
  • Research and follow up to resolve open & pending authorizations in a timely manner
  • Educate clinicians on scheduling protocol and guidelines
  • Serves as a back-up to the front desk (check-in and check-out)
